PA Spring Creek fishing report Hit two spring creeks around Easton yesterday. Water was pretty clear despite reports of hard rain for about 4 hours overnight. Managed 1/2 dozen or so on top with the old size 24 to 26 GG.
Also lost a real nice fish on a BWO Charron Emerger. This lazy but inventive fish was under a sweeper which had picked up debris. It acted as a bug collector in a bubble line with about 8 inches of foam packed into the front of it. The fish would come up from time to time at the edge of the foam and eat bugs stuck in it. I hooked him and "put the wood to him" (....on a 3 wt?) to keep him from going deeper into the log jam. I felt a couple of desparte moves of the fish trying to turn and head back under the log jam. That's when the hook came flying out.
The moral of the story here is that when fish have both cover and a concentration of an insect conveyer belt you'll have found the home of a larger fish.
No real hatches to report although there were lots of yellow crane flys around and every now and then a fish would actually try and eat one! Of course a number of fish were midging. Did not see any signs of Baetis... I guess the hatch may have finished up. |
