Favorite Way To The Catskills

Hi,

Dennis' topic about places to eat & stay got me thinking about all the different ways I've taken to get up to the Catskills from the south (either in NJ or SE PA) over the years.

What are your favorite routes to the hallowed waters of the Catskills, what's your departure point and why do you take them?

It's always amazed me that from Lawrenceville I could make it to Roscoe in just under 3 hours, making only 3 turns! I'd head north on Rt 206, to Rt 287, to Rt 17. Once on Rt 287, it's all 65 - 70MPH. It's not the shortest mileage wise, but always seemd the fastest.

Another favorite is to stay on Rt 206 all the up to Montague (always taking a break and checking out the Big Flatbrook - just looking, haven't fished it in years), then cut through Mantague over to Port Jervis, and either take Rt 97 straight up to the WB or Rt 42 (through Forestburgh) to Rt 17 and then head west.

There are several other routes I've taken over the years, each with their own characteristics and favorite places to see or stop and check out. This year I'm going to explore some new ways up and check out smaller waters on the way. Mostly on the PA side of things.

What are your favorite routes up to the Catskills, and why? This assumes, of course, that you're coming from the south in NJ / PA

Cheers,

Shawn
