After lengthly phone conversation yesterday with a local guide, the water quality of the WB is not good. Deposit lost it's water treatment plant and is dumping raw sewage directly into the WB. There is propane, gasoline, diesel, waste oil and many other contaminents in the river. Onieonta also lost it's water treatment plant and is doing the same on the Susquehenna. We could not recall seeing a treatment plant in Downsville, any answer on that would be helpful.
In this persons opinion this flood seems to be more harmful than the past 2 floods. If anyone remembers 1996 on the Little Juniata, a 55 gal. drum of pesticides was washed into the stream and wiped out the aquatic insect life. It is just now starting to recover. Only time will tell.
Walton, where my father lives, is in very bad shape. Cadosia is gone. On the west side of Hancock, Sands Creek did major damage.
Let's hope Mother Nature is her tough, resilient slef and recovery is quick.
