Kids drown in canoe in front of me

While the fishing was great tonite,this afternoon may have been fatal for a father and two kids. I had waded to the island below the wing dam in Lambertville this afternoon to catch some smallies and watch the clouds roll by. I was casting and noticed some kayakers blast through the dam in the whitewater and I noticed one crash and tumble for a moment before finally coming back up.Whew,close one,I thought. A few smallies later I looked up and saw a man and two small kids heading through the whitewater from upstream. I have canoed through some stuff before but never the wing dam. Well they only made it 1/2 way through and they just dissappeared..............slam,the canoe pops up and tumbles down the river empty! I started yelling"kids ,kids are under water!" I was in no situation to even move as I had perched myself on a boulder 15 yards off shore and the water around me was way too deep. I never seen the people pop back up and watched the kayakers rip downstream to help in the rescue. I had 911 on the phone in seconds and relayed the info to the police directly to help them see where they dissappeared. While this was goin on another canoe capsized and got sucked through the dam and got smashed on the rocks at the end,but the police rescued those people right away. After giving my info to the police,I came home to think about my day. Have not received a call from the police yet as to the recovery of the victems. Hopefully sombody lived...will keep the info up to date as much as possible... Moral of this story? you tell me.... Dave
