Wet Fly Techniques

Hi,

My basic fishing styles have always been nymphs (grudgingly) and dry flies - always preferred Some days I've waited for hours hoping for a Happy Hour to happen rather than nymphing.

My brother recently sold our family's house. Mother and father past away 6 and 15 years ago, respectively. End of last summer we were cleaning stuff out and we came across some old metal fly boxes that contain a coupla dozen wet flies.

The boxes include patterns like Yellow Sallies, Royal Coachmans and such. These flies must be at least 50 years old. I didn't even know my padre fly fished, although I have an old, old bamboo rod that's in bad shape that I guess was his.

Anyway, I been using some of them during my last few outings. I'm not even sure what the best presentation techniques are and have been going by instinct and my simple understanding of emergences.

These flies always seem to generate strikes but I'm having problems setting hooks properly (always way too much line out). It's a reflex issue as well

If you've any tips, tricks, and / or techniques you'd like to share on any aspect of wet fly tacticts, I'd sure appreciate it.

Happy Holidays!

Shawn
