Hi guys, hows it going?
I have just recently taken up fly fishing and am at a loss for a starting point. I have bait-fished for trout for many years, well not that many I am only 23, and have a basic understanding of where fish lay but i have no idea what kind of flies to buy, tie,or throw. Any and all advise will be appreciated.
I guess to know what to thow I will have to tell you guys that I have done most of my fishing on the Pequanock, Wanaque, Flatbrook, and Ramapo(N.Y.). I have recently moved to Bergen County close to the Saddle River and Ramapo. I have a inexpensive 5wt rod and reel, spooled with Scientific anlers wf floating line and have been using a 3x tippet.
I went to the Ramapo this past Sunday but it was rageing, got to practice casting anyway. The guy at the sport shop set me up with a couple of nymphs and a couple things that looked like giand earwigs, I tied the earwig 3 ft from the end of the tippet with a nymph beelow it, a splot shot between them and a stike indicator up top.

That was a little more difficult to cast than just a nymph but I managed.
I will probably going to the Saddle river this weekend. Any suggestions
Thanks Alot
And nice site by the way
