| Leaders This is my first post on this site so let me say hello first. I guess I am what you call an ex lurker. Since I've been reading here I've learned a bunch of great stuff. One thing I would like to see more of along with the insect information is more stuff about trout. You dont have much stuff on Browns, Bows, or Brookies. How can you have a FF site without this info!?!?!?! Anyway, nice layout here and keep up the good work. There is so much talk about tippet's but never nothing on leaders. I create my own leaders using some formulas printed in an orvis knots book I bought a few years back. If anyone is interested I can photocopy them or write them down and post them for all. Its probly best if I write them down though. Here is a link to to download a a nice spreadsheet too http://globalflyfisher.com/fishbette.../lc_v199r3.xls theres a bunch of good stuff in there that lets you configure your leader for the tippet your using. It even has a label generator and a mono strength test chart. I personally think that your self created tippets turn over much nicer than tapered ones and that's why I only use home grown leaders. I also use only Fluoro for my leaders and mono for my tippet section. I think I can speak for all of us. don't mix and match leaders and tippet materials. I find that many of them are not that compatable. What I mean is that using one with the other might cause some slippage because of the coating they have. I'm not sure if i'm saying that right but if someone can explain it better please do. This is from experience and I'm not familiar with the technical terms. Someone here must know! I have to go now but I'll be back later to check up on the site. |
