Ever have this happen?

So I admit that I do not have a clue as to the Delaware, that's a given. I travel all over the world catching trout easily, but just can't seem to get the hang of the big D.

Anyway, I'm fishing this one spot on the main stem over the weekend for an hour, with two decent strikes (I missed both).

This other fly guy shows up a little downstream and starts hammering the trout, hits on almost every cast. In three minutes he's already caught two jumping rainbows.

Then I ask what he's using, and it is identical to what I am using.

Perhaps my presentation was not correct? Perhaps I should give it up?
