Not Ranked : 0 the future of fly fishing fads come and go but will fly fishing remain? I started fly fishing before I watched (or even heard about) a river runs through it. I've read quite a bit about the explosion of fly fishers after the movie and how the excitement has died down quite a bit. I know I'M in it for the long haul and will most likely die an old hardened fly fisher. But what about the rest of the people my age (21)? Or for that matter future generations of possible fly fishermen/women. If there was no one there to learn how to tie flies like theadore gordon then we it is completely true that none of his work might have been noticed, and he would have been just some guy who liked to fish. I know I'm probably not going to get into tying anytime soon but a lot of people can do some really great work and with no one trying to learn about FF how will their expertise be recognized in history like Gordon?
What does the future hold for our sport? sure we're doing pretty good at protecting rivers right now, but will they all be empty far into the future? or will fishing with a fly prove to us that it not only has but WILL last through the ages.
