I was just trying to come up with the list of what TU says is the best 100 trout streams.

The ? is for what state, I found what I believe are some of the names of streams on their list, but I don't know what state they are located in.

I put it out to seek help from the NEFF board members.

Google tells me that second group of rivers may be part of the Driftless area, all being located in Minnesota and Wisconsin. If that's the case, the West Fork is probably the West Fork of the Kickpaoo.

IN John Ross's book he mentions them all, I beleive one surprisingly to me is in Texas, the Guadalupe River ( Spelling??) , the TU chapter there has thousands of members and that river is basically the only game in town for trout fishing in Texas.

Is this an East Coast-only list?

    Re: 100 Best Trout Streams

I count 43 on the list. I assume the balance are west of the mississippi.

    Wow! one comment-

There is NO WAY that the Vermont side of the Battenkill is better trout fishing than the New York side. Ask anybody who fishes the river. Hell, even legends of the river like Lee Wulff and Lew Oatman made their homes on the NY side. What's that tell ya'? Avoid the Orvis hype- that's all it is- Hype.

I wonder if the Judging criteria is about senery?

Here are a few more. The upper Connecticut is a beautiful river that gets very little attention.

    Re: 100 Best Trout Streams

Just wondering what criteria TU uses to come up with the list. If it's fish per mile I can see it, but if they are talking natural reproduction some rivers don't belong.

Re: Some of the "?" states in the original post...
    My best guesses:

White River - Arkansas & Missouri (could be Vermont, but I doubt it)
Firehole River - Wyoming ("Firehole" usually spelled as one word)
Copper River - Alaska (agreee with Macfly)

    Re: 100 Best Trout Streams

Kind of a silly list to me. Some streams in MT, ID, and WY were left off the list that would be considered top fisheries in PA or NY. I guess if your goal is to fish every state with a trout stream...

    Re: 100 Best Trout Streams

I think you could better phrase this list as "100 important regional trout/salmon fishing streams" and "important" could mean different things to different people. I'm not sure who at TU put it together or what their criteria was, but these types of things are designed to give anglers some ideas if they travel. And if debating it during the dead of winter keeps away the shack-nasties, so much the better

Wild rivers are earth's renegades, defying gravity, dancing to their own tunes, resisting the authority of humans, always chipping away, and eventually always winning. — Richard Bangs & Christian Kallen, River Gods
