Thread: Hank Aaron @ 75

Hank Aaron @ 75
Today is Hank Aaron's 75th birthday.
The single greatest record in all of sports is Baseball's Home Run king, and his record of 755 home runs might not ever be broken* (unless the use of steriods).
Career batting average .305
3,771 hits
A man of class and dignity.
Happy Birthday Hank!

Re: Hank Aaron @ 75
Unlike Barry Bonds. Just read in today's Star Ledger that Bonds tested positive for 3 different steroids and amphetamines and is trying to have that evidence suppressed in his perjury trial. Let's hope that history is FAR more friendly to Hank than to Barry!
Bring on America's favorite pastime - I'm ready.
And AK - GO YANKEES!!!
Welcome back Everyone's Friend

Re: Hank Aaron @ 75
Bob Costas may have said it best, that in the record book there should just be a note that during that time in baseball steriods were used.
Barry Bonds, Roger Clements both will tried in Federal Court.
They will have their day.
Along with Pete Rose, none of them will ever see the HOF.

Re: Hank Aaron @ 75
Still, the hardest things to do in sports, consistently.

Re: Hank Aaron @ 75
Congrats to Hammerin' Hank but I still put Joe D's 56 game hitting streak as the greatest baseball feat and above the career home run record. A hitting streak is pure consistency and of course a bit of luck.
That one may never be broken!
Too many things influence home runs, things which can be manipulated such as size of parks, type of bat and liveliness of the ball. Not to mention things that can shrink your balls like PED's.
Unfortunately for Mr. Aaron, his record which IMHO is the only one that matters, will be broken legitimately one day, maybe soon by A-Fraud or Pujols.
The one thing he possesses that will never be eclipsed by the current crop of players is his class!
BTW - What's up with the uniforms in the World Baseball Classic? There are so many ads on the uniforms I thought I was watching NASCAR!
Crap, I hope MLB never goes that route!
Hatches?, I don't got to show you any stinkin' hatches!! - FUBO

Re: Hank Aaron @ 75
I remember watching Joe comment at an Old Timers game that most of the current players taking the field that day would have been minor leaguers in his day. His is a record that will not be broken.

No argument on the accomplishments of Ted Williams and let's not forget he was a fisherman!
Unfortunately though, those single season averages are NOT the records!

Re: Hank Aaron @ 75
I've heard from Ted Williams' friends that he was the very best fighter pilot, very best FF (tarpon, AS, etc.) and the very best hitter of a baseball in his time and likely since. Not too many people can claim to be the "best" at any one thing, here's a guy who was "best" at 3 things. They don't make 'em like that anymore - at least not in our modern sports world...
