As I gear up for the fall fishing season, which pattern of the slate drake is perferred?: an adams style dry fly with the slate drake colors or an extended body style?
I've been trying my hand at tying the extended body, but need 6/0 thread (instead of 8/0) and elk hair to tie it properly. who has tried the extended bodyand do you think they would work a little better than the Adams?. I also found a pattern that uses an elk hair body - not extended - and a parachute hackle that looks promising...
Thoughts? experiences...???
