On Monday I decided to take an extra day off of work and take my daughter fishing on the big D. Other than an afternoon at a local pond my daughter (almost 3) has not been fishing with Dad and has been asking for the last month. I figured this was a good day since it was a weekday and likely to be empty except for the occasional tube flotilla. Since it was threatening to rain there was literally no one on the river. After a stop for some flies and a bobber, I rigged up the trusty Dora the Explorer fishing rod and we waded into the mighty D.
Now we started to scout for rising fish but we saw no active risers. We began to blind fish using a cool version of a sneaky Pete. It was tricky getting the hang of using a popping bug with a bobber and 2 foot rod but soon enough the sunnies were nipping at the fly. In an attempt to get some distance on the cast I used my shadow casting technique and was able to get about 25 feet out from our spot. As the fly drift almost directly downstream my daughter began a combination of reeling and pulling that came very close to getthing the fly to go under water. She did this about 5 times but no takers. She was soon ready to retire to the shoreline where she spent some time throwing the ball to our lab Matuka. This proved to be more enjoyable than not catching any fish. Next time I will opt for a smaller fly to perhaps have a better chance of catching a sunny. She wants to go again which is good because I will need her as leverage to get out flyfishing in the future

My wife stood by and dutifully snapped about 100 photographs and of course recorded a short video as well. Im thinking of renting storage space to handle the vast array of file storage I need for all the pictures we have now. All in all a great way to spend the afternoon.
