FLY FISHING and WHY WE DO IT

I just finished reading a post about someone fishing the Delaware and it wasn't so good, and I got to thinking; I am the first one to harp on someone if they post a fishing report that is not accurate or too self serving. But where is the neutral balance on a fishing report?

Maybe when I read his report I had the wish I was out there instead of being in an office, but then again I love my job right after my family, and before fishing.

What is it that each of us are looking for when we do fish? Catching as many as possible in a days time? Just being away from it all? Traveling away from home and visiting the different areas of the country? Could it be being close to all the natural beauty of the area? Or just something to do with all the flies you tied over the winter?

My reason was the latter, some place to put all the flies I tied. Then it became the natural beauty of the areas in which we fish, then came the traveling to streams you only read about, and finally I use it to just get away from it all for a few days. Personally I do not think it will ever become a numbers games, nor do I hope it to ever be. Fishing is to be enjoyed and even savored.

This is my all time favourite trout stream. When I think of fishing I always think of this one stream and the native Brook Trout that I held in my hand one morning. Even though I had a camera, it was too beautiful of a Brookie to take it's photo, for it would never have done it justice. I guess that is why I have lots and lots of scenery photos of fishing spots, and leave the fish to memory.

After all fishing just becomes good memories.
