    Fly Fishing Tattoos

I was thinking about a fly fishing tattoo, has anyone ever seen one or know of anyone who does them, preferably a fly fisherman who is tattoo artist. I think a nice streamer, Royal Wulff or trout jumping with a line on it might look neat.

    Re: Fly Fishing Tattoos

Go for it! I've always wanted to get one and it's probably the only thing I never did due to my inability to obtain spousal consent.

I thought of a dry fly silhouette, basic black. I like the idea of color, and a Royal Coachman was under consideration as was several Atlantic Salmon flies. Then I thought the colors would run as I got older and end up making the tat look crumby.

I wouldn't worry too much about having a fly fisherman do it. I'd just want an excellent artist. I have seen some nice fish tattoos here and there. A rainbow trout and a marlin are two I remember.

    Just do it!

    Re: Fly Fishing Tattoos

i was watching ff america one sat. morning and they were doing a show from a cool camp in Mt.. One of the fisherman they focused on had lots of fly fishing tatoos. The most interesting one was a beautiful wet fly on his ring finger. To let the ladies know what his true love is, is why he had it done.

    Re: Fly Fishing Tattoos

    Hi,
Your question of a Salmon tattoo was flagged up on my sites statistics page, and I thought that you would be interested in having a look at a Salmon tattoo in progress. I have a customer in New Mexico who is using a couple of my fish images on his back, and it is looking very good. I will not put a link to my site as it is generally frowned upon by search engines and editors, rightly so, but if you do a google search with words like "Atlantic salmon tattoo", it will probably be the first result. I am still waiting for the final photographs of the last couple of sessions, but I should be able to update the site soon.

    Re: Fly Fishing Tattoos

I met a guy named "Buzz" in a bar near my house a few years ago.He was a guide on the upper Delaware,I forget which outfitters he worked for.He was the most intense guy I ever met talking about fly fishing. He just got a divorce, bought a new Clackacraft and got the G. Loomis fish logo tattooed on his forearm. He was in his fifties and was like a fly fishing commando! He was definitely a colorful guy living the life!

    Re: Fly Fishing Tattoos

I really cool one I saw on some tv show was one of a fishing hook pierced through skin with few red blood drops; looked pretty real; not exactly fly fishing, but simple and elegant; if I muster enought guts to get one someday, that would be it. Nice reminder that one is hooked for life...

Ah "Buzz" .....sounds like the guide who used to work at the Delaware River Club. Not sure he still does. Check with the boys there if you want to track him down and find out where he got that tattoo. Might be a long... long... story!

    Re: Fly Fishing Tattoos

My sister in law has a fly-fishing type of tattoo. IMO, just haveing a fly tattooed on you, doesn't say much. Just a tied fly, has no context if you know what I mean.

    Re: Fly Fishing Tattoos

I see what you mean by it needs to be more than just a fly, but I am 61 and if I had something like that on me, my wife would have me committed to a nut house. I have to tread lightly on this subject and get away with what I can.
