| Public meetings to discuss flood issues Hey you NJ and PA guys. It would be great to have a few people show up at these meetings with a few comments about habitat and fish. You might be shouted down, as the sentiment is one of "don't worry about the fish, help the people", but it will be worth the effort to get the message across that fishermen and people seeking flood relief all can be on the same page. We need to make sure that everyone understands that the only way to protect against flooding is to release more water in the summer. This will create a void as we head into the hurricane season. For the most pat, the release works are too small to allow releasing water at the last minute in anticipation of a storm. If that point can be made, then all we ask is that the water released in the summer be released in a way that is beneficial to the rivers. For instance, do not just dump water over a day or two, but release it more gradually over several days. Jim The public meetings will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the following locations: Feb. 8 - Cook County Office Building, Delhi, NY 6:30 pm meeting start Feb. 13 – Hugel Science Center, Lafayette College, High Street, Easton, Pa. Feb. 15 – Carvel State Office Building, Mezzanine Floor, 820 North French Street, Wilmington, Del. Feb. 20 – William Antheil Elementary School, 339 Ewingville Road, Ewing, N.J. An informal “poster session” beginning at 6:30 p.m. will precede each meeting to give the public an opportunity to review information on display. These three meetings are in addition to the one previously announced in a Jan. 31 press release which will be held on Feb. 8 at the Senator Charles D. Cook County Office Building, Board of Supervisors Room, 111 Main Street, in Delhi, N.Y. Please note that the Delhi, N.Y. poster session and public meeting will begin at 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., respectively. The task force’s draft report now appears on the commission’s web site at Delaware River Basin Commission's Home Page. Written comments will be accepted until Feb. 28, 2007, and should be mailed to: Robert Tudor, Deputy Executive Director, DRBC, P.O. Box 7360, 25 State Police Drive, West Trenton, NJ 08628. |
