Newcomer!

Hello everyone. I'm Mike in Northern Jersey. I just got my first flyrod, and have been practicingmy casting for thelast few hours, but iti has gotten to dark outside.

My fishing backround includes mostly surfcasting in florida, and baitfishing/casting in the mangroves.

Recently i have been craving fishing and some quality quiet time outdoors, esoecially now that i spend most of my time in NYC. So my girlfriend hasgotten me a great beginner flyrod setup, as well as onefor herself.

My question is just in general on any beginner advice anyine here has to offer. I intend to fish as much as possible since i have been missing it so baly for the past 3 yrs, and very excited to search as many nearby streams and rivers for trout as i can.

Also any advice on manners would be great. I would hate to unintentionary run into anyone on a stream andanger them unknowingly.

Also what is acceptable in terms of keeping fish? When I fished alot in fla i would go alot for red drum. But only 1 per year would i keep and eat which i saved as a special occasion andreserve a good bottle of wine to have with it. many kept more but red drum seem to be gettingfew and far in between, i always released snook, they were myfavorite to catch, but were being dessimated by fishermen. I plan on doing the same here if i am lucky enough to catch any trout. Is this an acceptable prudent measure? orvare there enough where its ok to keep more?

thanks for any help!
