My Trusty Nikon 990. I'm not sure about any of you guys, but whenever I fish, I bring with me my Nikon 990.
When taking photo's of trout, I will leave the camera in Automatic mode. I'm sure all digital camera's have this mode.
When I hook into a fish, before I flip the switch on, I will make sure the fish is mine. Sometimes you can just tell if the fish is going to stay on or not. Once I get the fish about 5-6 feet away from me, I'll turn my camera on. I get the fish into position and snap the shot. While doing so, the rod is being held under my arm and the camera is strapped around my neck.
My Nikon 990 has definetely proven itself to be a work horse. I had this camera in a chest jacket pocket about a month ago while fishing the Mainstem. I was up to the bottom of the pocket in water. I was wearing a SIMMS Guide jacket which I shelled out $350.00 for because it said it's 100% water proof, and advertised on their website as "No water will get into the pockets." Well, low and behold, there was about 3" of water in my pocket. ACK!!! My camera was sitting in 3" of water. I took it out and figured it was ruined so I turned it on. Well, the LCD lit up but I couldn't take pictures. After a few hours, I was able to get 1 photo out of this thing. The next day, I was able to take photo's but could not use the flash. So now, my digital camera works without a flash... I can deal with that, I'm somewhat of an amerature photographer, and if need be, I am fully capable of andingling my shutter and aperature manually.
The camera sat in my car for about a week after this incident. I got in the car and ready to go fishing and figured I'd test it out. Not only did the camera work, but the flash was back in full effect!!! I couldn't believe nothing got burned out... I mean, I did turn the camera on while it was wet (figured it was dead anyway)...
Since then, I've sent my Jacket back to SIMMS for evaluation, and I believe they are sending me a new one! |
