Mayflys and Monsters on the South Branch while on the South Branch last weekend, I managed to catch a fly from a hatch. it was small, ~size 20 and looks like a trico. It had a black head/thorax, clear wings but the abdomen was green - a deep rich green. I thought trico's were either light or dark colored, but not green... Maybe a male that just hatched? any idea's?
Speaking of green.... When I got back to my car, there was a dead mayfly (male BWO - I think) laying on my rear window. However, there was this green bug, as long as the mayfly sitting on top of the mayfly sucking it's bodily fluids out of it! The creature was bit lighter than grass green, its abdomen was half its body size, it had a total of 6 long legs and a retractable "straw" that folds under the front half of the body. No noticeable wings, unless they were folded tighly on the abdomen..
Any idea's on that one? It almost looked like a young praying mantis but the front legs didn't look quite right... hmmm....
