On my local limestoner, particularly during the sulphurs, the trout rise so steadily that often they scare the ducks certainly not the opposite. It's actually comical to watch. The biggest problem is not having a duck (mostly the ducklings) take your presentation before a trout takes it. However ducks and geese behave much differently than mergansers, and I think the trout react accordingly. I've seen pools where mallards are feeding with trout actively rising, only to have a pack of mergansers come thru and the trout shut right down for 5-10 minutes until the threat is gone.
