Not Ranked : 0 Poconos fishing - 7/5 Broke out the fly rod and tried my hand at some mid-morning ff on a pocono stream. Lots flying around in the air but barely any mayflies but lots of tiny tan caddis and various true flies. Rises were infrequent so basically it was just cast to a likely spot and keep fingers crossed. I tried an old favorite, Adams Dry, and had some decent success. Fished for 3 hours covering about a mile. Brought to hand 12 wild browns and two native brookies. No where near my bs spinner numbers(that one is for you Biot ;-) ) but still fun nonetheless.
The most satisfying catch of the day was a nice brown situated upstream of a far bank boulder and right near a fallen tree branch. The casting was tight and repeated attempts had the fly being dragged away quickly. As I muttered to myself that if I was spin fishing this would be much easier(underhand flip, retrieve, trout caught), I finally plopped the fly in front of the rock in a tiny eddy the size of a pizza box and the brown cleared the water hitting it. battle on! It was a nice one - maybe 13/14" - and full of spunk. Alas this trout was to better me this day, running downstream, leaping and tossing the fly right back into my look on my face. Oh well, I lost but took comfort in knowing I improved just a little bit as a fly angler this day.
