Hello everybody,
I just want to start by thanking everybody for their helpful information leading up to my little day trip. While this report will not even come close to Allen's most recent report, I still thought I would share.
Traveling from New York, my dad and I left around 10 am hoping to miss the traffic getting over the George Washington Bridge. The plan was to be at the fly shop around 12 and on the creek before 1. However, due to construction on every new york highway and multiple accidents, it was suddenly 12 with no signs of things letting up. We stopped for a nice lunch and waited for the traffic to clear, and finally after 1pm we were moving.
We arrived at the Evening Hatch a little after 3, and the good people there told us black caddis would be the key. We finally made it to Mud Run and were on the river a little before 4... we had the river to ourselves. Upon arrival, we saw no surface activity, but we each tied on a size 16 black caddis to start blind casting. Sure enough, dad's first cast... fish. a little downstream, my first cast... fish. We worked our way downstream, with the fish responding well to the caddis.
Around 6, I started to see light brown, almost tan mayflies coming off the surface, about size 16. Mahogany Duns possibly? I tied on an Ausable Wulff as an imitation, and sure enough it did the trick.
In fishing from 4-7pm, between the two of us we landed double digit fish. All fish were small, in fact nothing even reached 10 inches. All in all, after a less than ideal start to the day, it turned out to be a great afternoon. Oh yea, and the bluegrass was pretty sweet too

.
I'm not exactly sure how to post pictures, so I'll add this little attachment
All fish caught looked like this...
