Also, (so far) looking to have a Sage spey rod and a wallet with some steelhead flies to raffle off. If others are willing to donate please let me know. All proceeds will go to NEFF.

There will be a limited number of tickets for the spey rod in the raffle for sale, and members will not need to be present to win the rod. Should have the rod picked out and at the house by the end of July. Rod will come with a matching skagit and skandi head as well as running line. Tickets will go on sale in September. Haven't figured out a price yet, but it wont be too bad.

That was the date Chris said about a month ago.

For the spey rod. If you can get the blank & have it shipped to me, I will gladly buy the components and build up the rod for the raffle.

You don't need to buy anything. I have plenty of extra gear. I'll have a spey rod for you to try out and a single hander rod. No need to spend the money if you're not going to like it. But...if you are going to get into it...

Single handed rods 9.5'-10.5' 7/8wt is more than enough
Reel with a decent drag (if you like drags) that is big enough to hold the right line and an ample amount of backing.
Floating line is all you need for the SR and most NY area waters. Too shallow and not that fast for sinking lines. They make some weight forward steelhead tapers, but I have used double tapers for steelhead fishing.

Box containing egg patterns, streamers, tube flies, nymphs, and a bead box if you're fishing with Simms.

Two handed rods are all personal preference, but I prefer a 12.5'-13.5' rod 7/8wt with a reel that will balance the rod. I use scandinavian style lines, floating, sinking (of different rates) depending on the water and area I am fishing.

I only swing flies with my two hander, so I stick with streamers, tubes, and big ugly flies while I'm on the water with my two hander. Also depends on what time of the year it is and how warm the water is.

As far as casting goes, I prefer my Spey Rod for the SR because I can cover more water. A single hand rod can limit you a lot. Another option is a switch rod, which really is the best of both worlds. Someone who uses a switch rod a lot can chime in and give more info. I use either a single hander or spey.

I can cast far enough with my single hand rod to fish effectively, but you are limited as to what water you can fish properly. You will be making casts anywhere from 10' - 40' to fish certain runs.

Get your facts first, then you can distort them as you please.

That's all you will really need is a decent 7 or 8wt in the suggested length with a good floating line. Sending you a PM.
