So I was thinking about going out to the East Branch of the Croton tomorrow but looking at the USGS site (
USGS Real-Time Water Data for USGS 01374505 EAST BRANCH CROTON RIVER AT BREWSTER NY) it appears that the releases from the reservoir have dropped precipitously over the past few days. It's currently at approx 40 cfs and it seems to have stabilized somewhat. Anybody know what's up with this? I know we haven't had much rain lately so I'm guessing that the city is torquing down on the releases due to lower reservoir levels. Just a guess though.
I guess the bigger question is how will this effect the fishing? I don't know much about the river, and I've only fished it once, so I'd appreciate input if anybody has an idea as to whether it's worth fishing in such low flows. I also figure it's going to be crowded on a Saturday, especially now that all the other streams in the area are closed for the winter, but that's ok I can make some new friends.
Another place I was considering was the lower section of the Nissequogue outside of Caleb Smith Park (White's pool and the tidal section). I've only read about this river, but from what I hear it sounds pretty good and there's a chance for some sea run fish. However, a friend who has fished it said not to believe the hype, and that he didn't have any luck at White's Pool. So I'm not sure what to think.
There aren't too many options these days now that the season's closed and I don't have access to a car. It seems like either the Nissy or the EBC. Any other game in town that's train accessible and worth a visit?
