1000 Islands/St Lawrence River?

Does anyone have any recs for fly fishing the st lawrence/1000 islands area? I have 3 trips planned there for this coming yr (mem wknd, july and oct) and am curious to know if the fishery has rebounded at all from the zebra mussels or am better off making the drive over to black lake or the adirondacks. Apparently the River used to be a pretty productive smallmouth and pike fishery. I can't seem to find much in print or on the web regarding this area as it relates to fly fishing. any help would be much appreciated.
