| Ausable Two Fly Contest In about 22 hours, Coleman (Crumpy) Joey D (Joey D) , Tim ( GBS ) and I will embark on Tim and my third entry into this contest and Coleman and Joeys' first. As a summary, Tim and I reported 1 13 inch fish the first year (conditions were good) and zero fish last year. The contest is really a one man contest with the other fellow there for verification, it also total inch's of fish (all must be 12 inch's or larger) and a booby prize for the overall largest fish. As I said year one was good conditions, river was at about 800 cfs. Last year I left NJ at 4 am and the river was about 1000 cfs, when I got there it was 9000 and rising. This year bodes for challenging conditions as well. The river was at 800 cfs yesterday morning. As I write this, it is at 7620 and my guess will crest overnight. We have 2.5 days till contest and at best it will probably recede to about 5000 by Saturday morning. Clearly we are thinking wading will be near impossible again and limited in areas, so it looks like it will be roll casting mostly streamers and nymphs as air temps are not expected to exceed mid 50's with some flurries expected overnight, dry fly fishing seems but a pipe dream. I am curious, and suggestions from the peanut gallery? Is any one else here going? Thanks, Ralph |
