Locals - Gotta love 'em

Okay so my report from last weekend.

Fished the Beverkill, Willowemoc and one of it's tributaries.

Started at the B'Kill. I never fish there b/c it's usually crowded but Sunday it wasn't. So, I wet a line and tried my luck w/ streamers, working a deep run from back to front. Nothing. A guy and has wife were fishing worms at the front of the run also came up empty.

Headed to my usual spot up a ways on the Willow. There was a hendricksons hatch arround 1pm, just as they said in the fly shop. Not many but they were there. I didn't see a single fish rise. Worked a couple likely spots w/ streamers on my way down and Hendricksons and attractors on my way back up. Nada.

Started up a trib of the willow and found rising fish. I was pulled off the main road (on DEC land) crouched by the stream bed, working watching, not even fishing, but watching about 2 brookies take bugs off the surface w/ splashy aplom.

No sooner that I made my 1st cast, a man drove up, hopped out of his car and asked me how it was going. Being a sport, I told him the above and pointed out the rising fish in front of me. You know what this guy did? He pulled out his fly rod with a split shot and worm tied to the end and walked directly into my casting lane and started fishing his worm.

I don;t know why (and maybe someone on the board came give me my what-for) but this guy seemed to be a local. i am not, so I humbly respect local practices. i didn't argue, fuss or anything. I actually suck around for a few to see if he could do something I couldn't. He didn't get sh*t, by the way.

But, people, who does that? If someone is clearly working a section (a small one none the less) off river, who just stomps right in and takes over? I mean if I made a cast, I'd have caught him.

I know that most people who do live and fish up there are good and respectful people. I'd guess they feel that out-of-towners like myself are just getting in the way (which is how I feel when all you people wander aimlessly arround the subway system) but some respect, just some, would've made my day. Hell, I would've sayed there until I caught that fish.
