Thread: Great deal on shark skin line

Hey just letting everybody know that gander mtn. in middletown ny has wf5f sceintific anglers trout taper shark skin for 60 bucks! Its like 100 bucks from cabelas, they also have a have a few other line weights in other tapers for around the same price. I fished the flat brook yesterday and this line is freaking amazing!!

It may seem like a great deal, but I have heard nothing but bad reviews of that line.

The way it is designed it picks up a lot of dirt...

Hi AK. I have heared the same thing. A few of the guys in my TU chaptere loved the line at first when it was brand new. However after it had gotten a little dirty the material of the fly line coupled with a little dirt helped remove some of the finish off the snake guides. I would have not believed this to be true until the guys had shown me. I know there are a lot of good to great lines on the market, but just give me an old Cortlanf 444 peach and I will be happy all fishing season long. Trout Guy, I have learned like a lot of others on this board over time that when a product at a high price truly goes on sale in this case 40% off has to be a good reason why. Most of the time not selling well due to issues or being discontinued or replaced by a new and improved product. Just my two cents worth.

Andy has a point. Ramsey Outdoor Stores also has it on sale ($69.95).

When this happens, I suspect it's either being discontinued by the manufacturer, or it isn't selling and the stores are trying to get rid of their remaining stock.

If you like it, it's a bargain, but like AK & Andy both said, it's been getting some bad reviews lately.

first of all who would buy 100 dollar spool of fly line... i know fly fishing can be expensive but dont be rediculous troutguy pm me if you ever want to fish sullivan county

I have it and love it. Didnt clean it all season and had no issues. When you do clean it just use some simple soap and water. I will see if the gander in scranton has it on sale.

Oh wow, didnt hear about it getting dirty and effecting the line like that. I kinda thought it was to good to be true. I clean my lines almost everyday after i go fishing so ill see what takes place.

Hey trout fever, ill definatly take you up on your offer. I fish the lower neversink almost every day after work during trout season and fish small tribs when the NS is high.

I bought a Silver Label WF Floating Line from Orvis last year. It is a great line for $24 and loads the rod well. so far it has not retained any line memory. I have seen it on sale for as little as $12 considering the price of some lines you can’t beat the price.

same here andy! cortland 444 peach!

We had a bunch of it in the shop, it did not live up to all that SI claimed. Yes it casted a few feet longer, and floated higher. but it was freakin noisy, tore up your stripping finger, and held on to dirt way to much. We discounted it last year. Now the Matery series texture lines may be better, I have a couple and hope to give them a good work out early this spring.
