switch rods on the Salmon river

I'm thinking of getting a switch rod for steelhead and salmon. The question I have is can those rods be a pain in the neck when it comes to fishing certain areas because of thier length. For instance, "the bovines" or diversions? Are they only good for more open water?

what do you use now? an 11 foot rod isnt that much longer than a 10 footer as far as maneuverability, esp. considering the extra 3-5" on the lower grip and a larger upper grip to allow you to change position.

naturally, it will be more cumbersome working in tight conditions, but it opens more doors than it closes. it's just another tool in the arsenal really. you need to take into consideration how and where you prefer to fish in deciding if and what type of switch you want and how to line it.

Re: switch rods on the Salmon river

I use a 9ft 8wt. I like to fish places like Ellis cove, Bovines. Refirgerator, It would help me in higher water at places like below pineville and the DSR. I am looking at cabelas LST 11ft 8 wt with the Ross CLA reel. any suggestions would be appreciated

Sounds like a good set up WB . The switch is a great alternative as it gives you the ability to reach prime water with out trampling fish near by .They are great for nymphing as well as swinging wets speys and buggers I think you will enjoy it.

Re: switch rods on the Salmon river

Thanks you for the reply, I was wondering, what rod and reel set up you have in your pictures. I went to order last night and cabelas says their switch rod is no longer in stock. Not on back order just no longer in stock. So I was looking at the TFO Deerfield. Once again any suggestions or thoughts?
