We encounter a plethora of caddis hatches here in the Pocono's and do get the type you describe. I no longer blend my own dubbing but use Superfine water proof dubbing and their cinnamon caddis color is a perfect match. How ever if you find this to dark you can blend in some light cahill to lighten it up a bit and it works fine. For day time tactics most of the time here I can get away with fishing a deer hair caddis with a medium to light olive body in a size 16. And fish much better without a palmered hackle as the abdomen rides in the film. For evening and night caddis I use a Henryville Special floats a little higher and is a little easier to see if you use a light colored wing. And when fishing late like this I tend to think having the right size is paramount as apposed to color.
Mileage may very on this one . But this is what I have found to work for me hope this helps you out. |
