I just returned from a weekend of cycling and fly fishing in Vermont. My bike club was staying at a motel near Ludlow so I decided to give the Black River a try. Having never fished the Black River before this was an exploration trip for me. I decided to drive along route 131 and look for some fishy looking spots and make my way down to the covered bridge in Cavendish. I wasn't in the water for 5 minutes when I hear a huge splash in the water about 25 yards down stream. At first I thought it was a large fish or a tree branch that fell into the river. It turned out to be a crazy beaver! He swam right up to me and began slapping his tail in the water directly in front of me. I decided to leave him alone rather than to make a nice hat out him, so I headed down stream to another spot. After about hour or two of fishing pheasant tails with no success, I decided to try a black cone head woolly bugger. The fish we're all over it! In the next 2 hours I landed 6 trout in the 16 to 20 inch range and lost many others.
Here are some pictures fromthe trip, hope you enjoy them.
FYI, the bow on my net is 16".
