Also heading to Maine - suggestions? I'm taking my family to our annual trip to kezar lake in western maine for a week in early August. In past years I've headed up to the Rapid River, through the 10 miles of logging roads off RT26, down the boggy mile hike down to the river and done quite poorly for all the effort. I find the river dynamite in the early season (late May / June) and a real struggle by August. I'm not surprised by this but was hoping for a suggestion or two about a different western maine trout stream that might be worth checking out. I'll likely be able to fish for only half a day, maybe a 3/4 if I'm lucky so I won't have the luxury of traveling too far. I know there's a similar post up at the moment but it was for a different area and month than mine so I thought it warranted a new thread. Also, does anyone know how the Magalloway fishes that time of year? I've never seriously fished it, just by the side of the road in Wilson Mills. Is the portion north of RT26 in maine private or just somewhat impassable / hard to reach? I think Roosevelt fished it forever ago, so that sounds intriguing. Finally, I'm not against using a guide, I usually do a guided float on the West Branch of the Delaware every spring, so if there's a guide someone would like to recommend, I'm open. Suggestions are greatly appreciated – thanks in advance.
