Thread: New guy intro

Hey guys, new to the site. Live on the South Shore of MA, and just started fly fishing this year. Picked up a 5wt for trout, and 10wt for stripers, and really enjoy both. Hooked up with my first brookie on the fly in the spring, and that was it for me. Trying to learn as much as I can this winter about targeting trout. I live on a river that is stocked each spring, and plan on putting in a lot more time this year. I am considering fishing it right through the winter, but not sure if it is worth the effort. Going to give it a shot soon, and will report back. I look forward to learning from members here, and sharing my learning experiences along the way. Steve

Yo Steve...welcome. I you're local river is open, it wouldn't hurt to give it a try any day this winter...warmer days would probably be better fishing and more comfortable.
When they throw the stockies in, go with eggs and worms...

Thanks Phil. River is open, and the temps are supposed to rise a bit next week. Going to give it a shot, and also might take a ride out to the Swift.

Yes, pretty close to Marshfield. I surf fish Scituate, Marshfield, and Duxbury quite a bit.

Hey Steve...what's you plan of attack?
Nymphs (or "nymphing techniques" which can also involve eggs, etc) probably work best in winter...how's your indi rig game?
