I made the trek over to the Berkshires from Boston for the first time over Memorial Day weekend. I fished a number a small wild trout streams with good success. I caught a number of wild brookies and a respectable brown trout - from one of the stocked rivers. I caught all of them on
BWO drys and Hornbergs. I will try to post pics soon.
On my way back to Boston I decided to hit the Swift for the first time. What a humbling experience. I mostly fished nymphs right off the bottom, and streamers with some dry flies. First of all, all the fish I targeted (I saw tons - mostly browns and rainbows), just ignored my offerings.
Admittedly, I'm no expert, so technique might have been a factor. And
to complicate matters, the fish were holding mostly in pockets, beneath overhanging brush and were almost impossible to access without revealing myself.
Is it me, or are the trout in that river really smart? I've fished other rivers where the fish were seasoned, but I've never left a stream so dejected.
