Gh. the ST. Regis area is lovely, but is suffering from the same overuse that most of the Adirondacks experience. Even well out of " prime time" it can be hard to find a campsite. I was in Long Pond (a three hour tote to get there) Columbus day weekend. Yes the weather was great, but I was very surprised to find no campsites open. The next day we carried into I think it was Big fish pond. We were there only about ten minuites before another boat arrived. In a half hour yet another boat arrived. The fishing was great, but I would really prefer more solitude. Skiied into the same place last winter. Ran into about five other skiiers at that pond. Was able to ski into another pond close by without any other people on it. I'm hoping to find a canoe route in canada that is lightly used and has some decent fishing. I did a 6 day trip several years ago in the boundary waters. Saw one other person in the whole six days! Toodles,Frogge. |
