I fished a few places today.

A couple of smaller streams, including one I haven't fished before:

Stream #1: A few tan caddis coming off. No surface action. Water was murky, but I could still make out my boots in about 2' of water. The trout were hitting a yellow maribou streamer like it was their last meal.

I got rained on - hard - and shortly afterwards, the water went from murky to opaque chocolate brown. The fish stopped hitting, so I moved on to...

Stream #2: That gray color of dirty laundry machine water, sort of like weak coffee with skim milk in it (yuk). No fish rising or taking the streamer. Some Sulpurs and Grey Foxes coming off. I picked up some trash, and moved on to...

Stream #3: OK, this was the KLG. I haven't fished the KLG for almost 2 years, and now I remember why: too many F@%#^g people. I found one pool that was vacant, and fished it until dark.

Hatches: Tan caddis, March Browns (spinners), clouds of cream colored midges, Tiny BWO, and Sulphurs - a pretty good hatch right before dark. Very little surface action. I took one brookie immediately on a streamer, lost 3 more, and had no interest in any other fly I tried. So much for matching the hatches... The KLG is home to very impressive Sulphur hatches. When the fish are on the Sulphurs, it's just incredible. The water practically boils with fish - that's when you realize how many fish are actually there.

For all you people who say there aren't many fish in the KLG, I'm guessing they have been pressured so hard, you're just not getting them to take your fly. I saw many fish rolling, a few rising, and had multiple hits on my streamer. I'd guess there must be around 20 fish in that one pool...
