Battenkill River.

I just returned from vermont where I had a not so pleasing trip (fractured 4 vertebrae in my lower back ) snowboarding stratton, but I was curious as to whether the legendary battenkill fishes well during the summer months.

My friend has a condo up there and I plan on going this summer to do some heavy fishing on it.

tips would be appreciated. the condo is right in manchester village.

I can't speak on the Vermont side of the Battenkill, but as soon as the river enters NY (only 20 minutes from Manchester), it is C&R for several miles. While they do stock in minimally, this is a section of river that holds a good amount of holdovers, and browns that reach up to 24". There are also a few brookies mixed in there. It's not easy to access much of this section from the bank. You and Shane should meet Rugby and I up there in the spring and we can float through the entire section. It makes for a great day float. The section of river near the Battenkill Lodge is very nice, but you can't there from shore, but from a pontoon, you can.

Snowboards are evil...... just like guns..... that sucks!!! Did they have to ski you down the mountain on the gurney? I have a place on Mt. Snow, about 1 half hour from Stratton. I only fished the Bkill once for about 2 hours and landed the second nicest brown of my life, I think I caught the dumb one. I would be interested in fishing it with you, even if you wanted to split a guide. If you are interested in fishing smaller water for wild brookies in the area between stratton and mt snow let me know, i have found a few streams that always fish well.

TT, you wouldn't happen to own the cabin right in the main road..across from the pizza parlor..the one that when the wind blow the smoke comes down the chimney into the cabin......that by any chance that wouldn't be your place would it?

No, I own in the Seasons at Mt. Snow, ski in/out, nice spot....

that cabin sucks...The wife, kid and I rented it once many years ago.....we skiied for a week and froze at night while breathing Co2 fumes from the fireplace....all the while answering the phone, and telling the owners friends that he was not at the cabin and we were renting it, so they couldn't hang out......I am sure you have seen it on your way to the mountain....

If we can figure out a day or two in april, may or june id love to check it out and do a guide. Also, bring your golf clubs if you play, i hear they have some pretty good tracks.

Definitely interested in wetting a line in that area this spring/summer. Maybe il even get simms to join us if he has any brain cells or inclination to fish. The water looked beautiful driving along i believe it was route 7.

Oh and I did an edit of my trip. Its not a vivid capture of my injury, but skip to 1:40. I also blew it up and slowed it down.

Ive been snowboarding for 15 years now and this just pissed me off, the whole situation. I ended up riding down to ski patrol, but was in shock so dont remember much of anything.

Shane, sorry to hear about your back! I blew out two verts some time ago and i know how much it sucks. it seems to be for me, the gift that keeps on giving as it is killing me as i type this. if you ever want to drift the Delaware system i would be more than happy to be on the sticks of my Clacka and try to put you on some fish. Rest up and do the rehab that the docs tell you. by spring the hatches and you should be back in working order. please let me know.

I caught the rainbow in my Avatar in that stream, that is where the Deerfield goes into the Harriman Reservoir. Not a great stretch to fish.

Any of you knuckeheads have any experience fishing the White? Even though it got devestated by Katrina, there still looked to be some very nice water. Lower portion looks driftable. I usually fish up north when I'm in VT, but the White looks like it has some potential.
