| NJ Conditions OK Northwest NJ has dodged the hurricanes so far and water conditions are OK for August. Got out today to check out the new WMA. The stream there is real small and a little silted in, but, got one native brookie in the stream and a bunch of golden shiners in the reservior. The reservior was 65F, which is a great pond temp for August in NJ, maybe the state can manage it for trout. Checked out three more brookie streams (McMansions on many of my favorite old spots, but, streams were OK) in the area and stopped by the Pequest TCA on the way home. All streams were at normal levels and the small streams were 60F to 61F and the Pequest was 69F above the hatchery at 5PM with one car in the lot. Last week the water was 63F in the afternoon so the fish spread out to avoid the fishermen. This week the fish are back to normal positions(didn't see the one large brown though; caught him twice one evening two weeks ago, maybe he is on someone's grill today). While NJ is not perfect, the wet summer has kept the streams in decent condition.
Went to Philly yesterday to see my daughter. The Delaware was up in the trees by Scudder's Falls. |
