    Stokes State Forest

Has anyone on this blog had much luck in fishing for wild trout in Parker Brook or anywhere else in Stokes?

usually im more than willing to help out ,but I really dont fish up in that area often enough to be of any use anyway. Im just guessing that the fly crowd who does go up there wont be giving away much.

your asking about a stream that is fished by 5 or 6 anglers a year tops. there's silence because nobody goes there and not because its any good. its like asking about some movie released direct to video. chances are nobody saw it and with good reason - it sucked.

...but you never know until you try it. You could probably explore a few small streams in Stokes/Water Gap in one day. How far is that area from Sparta, 30 minutes tops?

    Re: Stokes State Forest

i have fished it and long since scratched it off my list. it suffers from numerous problems from low pH to lack of cover to thermal issues related to beaver activity. why it was ever included in the NJ's WTS program is beyond me but its far and away the worst stream in that program. in fact it might rank in the bottom 10% of trout production streams in NJ and we have 180 or so. even 10 % might be too high its that bad.

If i'm not mistaken, the NJDFGW is going to look at the situation and see if its correctable. the stream itself is naturally infertile plus there are a bunch active and inactive beaver ponds which raise stream temps, block fish passage and lower stream pH. its in bad shape and given its size, i think its going to be left to fix itself.

yeah easily within 30 minutes of where I am in Sparta, the trip home always seems to take a lot longer....... just can't seem to get past Gyps without stopping in for a few....

    Re: Stokes State Forest

Parkers Brook is not what it once was, and although I tend to not mention WTS waters, as said above this little brook has deteriorated. As a TU activity we walked a few spots and took some pictures to feed to NJDF&W, it wasn't pretty.
