catskills 4/10-4/11

wasnt in the mood for the crowds in jersey so headed up for a weekend in the catskills. The beaverkill and willow were a bit cold so I started at the east branch. GOt lucky and right away found a large pod (10-15) fish working on whatappeared to be quill gordons. However after a few perfect casts were refused i realized that they were aactualyl taking the smaller blue wing olives. First cast with that and I had my first dry fly hookup of the season in the catskils. Caught several nice browns between 14-18 inches but around 4 the hatch stopped. Went to the willow just to look around but couldnt resist to take a few casts and to my surprise hooked but lost a monster brown above the mueseum. The fish was big maybe bigger than 20 inches which is a monster for the willow or anywhere for that matter. Spent sunday on the west branch but didnt see much near hale eddy or gamelands so made my way home but not without stopping at the neversink first. A few fish were rising to stoneflies but the water was actually a bit low which is strange for this time of year and the fish were very spooky. Landed one nice 12 inch brown and left it at that for a nice ride home with dad. All in all a nice trip but it still is a little early. I was lucky enough to hit some fish but sunday i looked everywhere and didnt see a thing nbut was lucky enough to have some action on the neversink which starts its hatches a bit earlier. Bjmiller i see u had some action on the west branch were you fishing the lower or upper river and was the feeding sporadic or farely consistant. Im up their almost every weekend so maybe we could fish sometime.
