Flanders Brook runs along Rte 206 up from Flanders,
NJ. Van Campens Brook (VCB) is up in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreational Area, along with Dunnfield Creek BTW. VCB may be the most popular wild trout stream in
NJ and you have to share with hikers, picnickers, and swimmers, but it sure is beautiful.
These are just the tip of the iceberg. There are 35 streams in the WTS program listed in the
NJ fishing regulations. These are only a small sample of the 175 trout production streams in
NJ - see
Draft Coldwater Fisheries Management Plan for a listing. Nearly all of these are tiny streams that fish best in high water. There are the good, the bad, and the ugly in the 175 - not all wild trout streams have tons of fish (or very many at all). In addition, there are a handful of trout streams on nobody's list.
People are shy about discussing these small streams in any detail on the internet. Part of the joy of small stream fishing is sorting through a bunch of beautiful water to get to the gems. Time to grab a pile of maps and get going. That or hook up with someone to show you.
