Hello my friends,
I've been at this Fly-Fishing game for about a year and a half now. I started to finally have some success with the trout this spring up around the KLG, but only after much study, heeding of advice from the good folks up at Shannons, hours of viewing Hook.tv (awesome site), and watching "Rise Form Studio" podcasts (also great site!). Though I still travel an hour plus from Plainsboro to get skunked by the trout, it's still worth it when I get blessed enough to wrestle a nice one to the net.
This summer I made my way down to the D for some smallmouth action and, in my last 4 trips down over the last 2 weeks, I've only managed to say hello to 3 smallies no larger than 10 or so inches.
I've been virtually everywhere from I95 bridge to Lawerenceville using deaddrifting minnows, streamers, poppers, and woolys.
Can anyone offer any advice about how to fish for these smallies? How to read the water? Where to position myself? What time of day? (I've been going from 3:30ish to Dark)
I welcome any and all advice and, if anyone is looking for a partner out there on the D sometime soon, just give a hollar!
Sure do appreciate it!
