San Juan river

Im driving out to school in AZ in a couple weeks and am going to stop and fish the sanjuan for a few days. I had a few questions before going out there. Is it wadeable or do you need a boat for much of the river? Is it mostly nymphing or can you find consistent dry fly fishing if you want too? And lastly, are there better rivers in the state that hold large trout and provide dry fly opportunities. Thanks alot to anyone who can help

JC
