| Montana - Day 4 - Madison River Yesterday we met up with our guide, Frank. Frank is a really personable guy and quite playful "Hurry the fvck up man"... That's said in a good way. He's always smiling and really enthusiastic about putting his clients on fish. Frank busted his ass all day for us on the Madison river. Once again though, the fish were just not cooperating. I believe we caught 4 fish today. All were under 10" and 2 were white fish (a little better than a chub). Frank was nice enough to actually keep us out past 6pm. After fishing, we went out to a pretty nice restaraunt and bought dinner + gave him a nice tip. We didn't get home until 10:45pm or so. So far, Frank is the only guide that we never fealt rushed with. The others bust their asses but when 6pm rolls around, work is over for the day. Hey, I understand these guys have lives too so I suppose it's to be expected. Frank went the extra mile and we appreciated that. Now if we can just turn him into a fishing magician and make the fish appear, that would be awesome! So here's the deal... I'm not going to throw this shop under a bus so I won't mention the name. The guides we've had are all excellent top notch guys and I would recommend these guys to anyone. So far, our favorite is of course Frank. I guess now I see why they might mix it up a bit. We're going to try to get Frank for tomorrow too but something tells me that he's a hot item around here. ![]() I wish I could post some pictures of Montana fish but we haven't caught anything worthwhile taking a picture of. Jess tied up a few bugs for my trip and I promissed I would use them. Today I trailed a golden stone nymph to the back of a golden stone (stimulator) fly. As the fly was swinging, a little 8" brown took the trailer so Jess, they do work now can you make them bigger? Bigger flies = bigger fish, right! ![]() Frank was a trip and we really enjoyed fishing with him. On the way back, we almost hit a moose with the really big antlers. That was pretty cool. Ohhh yeah, Frank was the only guide that I saw picking up rocks to see what was hatching or about to hatch. He pulled some nymphs from the bottom of the rocks and gave a little insite to the life cylces of the salmon fly. A little about the Madison. We pulled up and this river looked great. It was a little off color but not muddy. It was in excellent shape, maybe a little high but not a big deal. The sun was pretty damned bright so I'm thinking that turned the fish off a bit. Who knows... When the sun went behind the mountains (at 10pm or so), maybe things picked up. Here are a few pictures from today.
