Thought I give a little winter fishing report.
Fall fishing was pretty good this year, but came to a screaming halt one week when temps went from 40 to -30 and stayed for a few days. That put me inside for a while, and froze up much of the state. As of lately, from what Ive heard, the rivers are opening back up. The big tailwaters has been fishing well through the cold, but still freezing up a few miles from its source. Floated the yellowstone last weekend through livingston and did pretty well. Only saw 1 other boat all day, which was quite different from the summer. Sculpins are very dark right now, so black is the way to go on most streamers. Although yellow still gets the browns attention at times. Just my luck, the one day I decide to go out on the stone, there was no wind and the midge fishing looked AWESOME...but I has zero midge dry patterns. Knowing this, I bet I wont get that chance again all winter now that I tied some up. Lower madison at warm springs was fishing very well as well as the bear trap. This weekend, I plan on taking the boat out to the Missouri and try my luck there since the wind is screaming at 45 mph in Livingston. Made a trip out the Oregon a few weeks back for some steelhead and that was a blast. Couldnt tell you much since I am not too experienced in that field but its a hell of a time. Hope all is well back in
NJ. Did some fishing on the SBR a few weeks back when I was home and it was awesome. Much better than last winter.
