This is one for the books. My brother in law lives in Arizona and we were planning a trip to float Glen Canyon untill I heard some very bad news . There is push to restore the native chub to the river that have been displaced by trout because they taste good. The state of Ariz. started electro shocking the lower part of the river this past summer (that is usually not floated ) and give the trout to the indians for fertilizer. I figured the upper part by the dam that is floated by guides would be the place to go over the winter but have found out they are releasing huge flows for the purpose of preventing the trout from spawning. If that isn't taking giant steps backwards I dont know what is. |
