I managed to get this weekend off and decided to do some brookie fishing in NW CT. When we arrived the weather was cool and the half mile walk walk to the stream was pleasant. At the stream the water was clear and low, its color that of Mother Natures iced tea. I had a selection of dries and a streamer, with the streamer the first choice. I cast into a plunge pool and the fly was sucked under, a second later a brookie was on. This happened several more times until the fly sucumbed to the willows. Going to the dries, which did not produce the way I had hoped, until I tied on a 14 elk hair caddis, just awsome, It produced fish all weeknd long. Many brookies, most in the 4 to 6 inch range with a few big boys of 8 inches. I took stream temps, mostly 60 to 64 degrees, with a spring seep at a chilly 48. It was a beautiful weekend for me and my wife, with the wild brookies, on a beautiful stream in wild CT.
