Just wondering what the difference is between the two?

Also, I'm sitting here trying to tye a midge larva pattern using a biot fiber and this damn thing keeps on tearing at the tie in point, even if I tie in at a thicker part of it rather than right at the tip. Is this normal or did I get some crap quality biots?
