While fishing to some working fish, I hear someone crashing downstream from up above me, obviously fighting an out of control fish. The fellow reaches the end of an island where it is too deep to safely wade any longer and continues to try and play this out of control fish. It is well into his backing and I can see that the fish is not very big and wrapped by the leader. I offered to net the fish if he could drop it into me, but the leader or tippet then popped, after I told him that it was wrapped.
My question is:
1. Should I have offered to net this fish?
2. Should I have relinquished the pool to him so that he could attempt to land it. Remember he walked down from at least 100 yds above me where I couldnt see around the corner and had reached a point too deep to safely wade.
3. At what point to you just surrender and pop off a fish rather than fight it to death?
4. or, as others have suggested, throw stones at him.
