I was wondering if anyone uses the Miracle White Biot (AK Best) in the late fall and winter around here? I heard about it a couple of years back and saw how it worked well on all tail waters, especially the San Juan. I came home and decided to give it a try. It works well on those fussy fish that you never know what they're feeding on. I've used it with a lot of success near the Pequest Hatchery, the Little Lehigh and all the main NJ steams in the winter. It's an easy tie. Just use a std. nymph hook (#24-#28), tie in a white goose biot (soaked in water first) at the hook bend using 8/0 black thread. Next wind the thread up to near the eye and follow this by winding the white biot up the hook to the eye also. Finish off by building a small "head" with the black thread up near the eye. Just one thing, tie in the biot so that when you wrap it up the hook it makes a segment-like effect. If you do it the other way, you will have a nice "waxy" looking body. The goose biots make a nice alternate to quills if you wrap them up the "waxy" way. I like to fish this pattern low and slow in the deep winter holes.
Good luck!
